FolderShare.com - sync files, sync folders, transfer files, share files, web download, access files anywhere

FolderShare.com - sync files, sync folders, transfer files, share files, web download, access files anywhere

This is an awesome tool for keeping folders sync'ed on separate machines. First off, here is the way I normally keep my my worked sync'ed and backed up. I have a favorite sync tool called Directory Toolkit that I run at work that syncs my documents on my office machine to an external hard drive (or sometimes with my laptop). I then take that external drive home (or laptop) and sync with that computer. Therefore, I have three hard drives that contain all of my work within a few days of use. A couple disadvantages to this are that (1) I might still need access to my files from a third computer somewhere and then I would have to deal with ftp or remote desktop or something like that and (2) this process is a little tedious. However, FolderShare allows real-time syncing! I checked this out using Remote Desktop just to see how immediately it would sync changes I made on my office machine would affect the home computer, and it was quick! FolderShare has a few limitations, but workarounds exist. For example, it limits folders to 10,000 files. For me, I just set up individual syncs for each of the subfolders that contain less than 10000 files or I keep zips of the big stuff. Also, it caps files to 2GB. I don't really need to sync 2GB files, but there is no workaround I know except splitting files with a 3rd party utility.
